At the Bell County Expo Center on Tuesday, Sept. 24, the annual Senior Expo sponsored by the Belton Journal will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The theme for this year’s event is “Passport to Adventure”.
The Senior Expo is a day for Senior Citizens to gather and have a fun time while getting tons of information that they need for free. More than 100 booths with information for seniors age 50 and up will be set up this year with a number of games and door prizes to be given away. A wellness center will be on sight to get a health screening and flu shots, which are needed every season. There will also be at least one informative seminar hosted by medical professionals.
Last year, the Senior Expo attracted more than 800 attendees, and this year’s grand prize is a flat screen TV.
“This event at the Expo Center is always crucial for us seniors,” William Alexander said. “My daughter forced me to go, but I’m glad I did. It really does give a large amount of information on health related issues or things to prepare for that some of us may not know about, like cataracts and daily exercise routines to keep your body healthy or even just tips on having to move into an assisted living home. I recommend for anyone that hasn’t gone to go.”
Some of the information that will be available at the booths this year are: government programs seniors are eligible for, possible caregivers, daily exercise routines, senior healthcare, places for assisted living, senior centers and activities, healthy diets, travel agents for vacations and/ or cruises, eye health, patient safety for seniors, Alzheimer’s facts, jobs after retirement, and much more.
