Belton High, A&M alumnus appointed CIO State of Nebraska

Edward Toner was appointed Chief Information Officer for the state of Nebraska by Governor Ricketts in June 2015. Toner was a graduate of Belton High School in 1979, where he was president of the National Honor Society chapter and received a Texas State Teachers Association scholarship.

Prior to his appointment, Toner served as director of IT Enterprise Operations for TD Ameritrade from 1999-2009. He earned independent Black Belt Certification and in the first 12 months delivered $3.2 million in process efficiencies.

Toner was the director of IT, Global Infrastructure Operations for First Data Corporation. From 2009-2015, Toner established a high availability program which budgeted infrastructure improvements in excess of $25 million.

Since being appointed CIO of the state of Nebraska, Toner has instituted $5.3 million in savings and was received the 2016 StateScoop 50 award, honoring the best and brightest in the state IT community.

“As Ed’s parents, we are pleased to live in Belton, where as a family we felt at home after serving 20 years in the military,” said parents Dale and Pat Toner in a statement. “We are especially thankful to the teachers who laid the foundation that enabled our son to achieve whatever goal in life he might set for himself.”
