The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) has selected two reporters from The Belton Journal for their 2015 Media Honor Roll. Tony Adams, the Journal’s sports editor, and Devin Corbitt, the Journal’s news editor, are among a select group of reporters honored statewide for their “fair, accurate and balanced reporting about public schools.”

The pair were nominated for the media honor roll by the Belton ISD Board of Trustees in March.

At the school board meeting this month, board president Randy Pittenger presented them with certificates from the district and from TASB.

Pittenger said, “Belton ISD has a great story to tell. Our kids are excelling in and out of the classroom, and I appreciate the work that Tony and Devin do to keep the community informed about what is happening in our schools.”

According to a statement from TASB, “Criteria for the district selection included the media representative’s efforts to get to know the superintendent, board president, and the district’s mission and goals; report school news in a fair, accurate, and balanced manner; give a high profile to positive news about schools; visit the schools; and maintain a policy of no surprises by sharing information with school officials.”

Dr. Susan Kincannon, superintendent, added, “Tony and Devin go the extra mile – often literally – to get the story for their readers. This spring, as our softball and baseball teams made their playoff run, Tony drove across the state to bring our fans scores and photos from their games. Like Tony, Devin also puts in long hours to cover everything from how we’re planning for our fast-growing student enrollment to the ways that our students give back to the community.”

Temple Daily Telegram reporter Lindsey Hernandez was also selected for the 2015 Media Honor Roll after being nominated by the school board in March.
