Belton XC teams perform well at Kiwanis Meet

The Belton Tigers and Lady Tigers Cross Country teams took part in the 2016 Hewitt Kiwanis Midway Invitational Cross Country Meet held at the Heart of Texas Soccer Complex in Waco last Thursday.
The Tigers varsity finished sixth with an overall score of 168. College Station won the boys’ division with 48 points, followed by Waco Midway (56), Austin Westlake (68), Ellison (153) and Round Rock McNeil (158). After the Tigers, Harker Heights finished seventh (195), followed by Copperas Cove (217), Corsicana (229), Killeen (231), Shoemaker (309) and Waco High (314)
Belton finishers were: Morgan Miller (11th place, 16:46.52), Spencer Liles (33rd place, 17:44.05), Asa Cable (41st place, 17:54.40), Roberto James-Diaz (17:55.62), AJ Hernandez (17:57.77), Zane Thompson (18:00.26), Juan Ledezma (18:24.09), Brysin Minosky (18:40.67), Jacob Jimenez (19:00.46), Isaac Martinez (19:14.58), Eli Cable (19:28.06), Doug Franks (19:43.31), Ethan Burstedt (20:25.30), Ben Davis (20:28.25), Phillip Hall (20:31.58), Jacob Summers (20:38.28), Levi Gunn (21:00.49) and Cristian Estrada (24:01.57).
The Lady Tigers varsity finished second overall, with a score of 59 points, trailing only Austin Westlake (56). Round Rock McNeil was third (75), followed by Waco Midway (115), Copperas Cove (171), Killeen (172), Live Oak Classical (184), Ellison (185), Corsicana (202), Harker Heights (219) and Waco High (303).
Brooke Gilmore won the girl’s title for the third consecutive meet with a time of 17:56.38. Olivia Houlden finished third with a time of 18:53.41. Lexy Jernigan finished 16th with a time of 20:52.66, Callie Eaton finished 18th with a time of 20:57.50, Scarlett Gott placed 21st with a time of 21:05.97, Trinity White finished 23rd with a time of 21:21.00 and Emily Hollingsworth finished 29th with a time of 21:46.44. Other Lady Tigers’ finishers include Sarah Simmone (21:51.91), Nadia Meyer (22:59.18), Kylie Rystad (23:12.88) and Morgan Holman (24:10.56).
The JV girls finished in fourth place with a score of 97 and the boys finished in 12th place with a score of 316.
The Tigers will run on Thursday in Brownwood. The Lady Tigers will run a practice meet at the Vern’s No Frills Challenge in Georgetown on Saturday.
