Christmas is a great time of year for getting together families and friends for great times and memories. The City of Belton Parks and Recreation Annual Family Fishin’ & Fun was instrumental in bringing those groups to Nolan Creek last Friday afternoon. An annual event that is generally held the final Friday of the Belton school schedule in December, the event has drawn hundreds of participants over the years. A total of 1,009 rainbow trout were dropped at 11 a.m. by Texas Parks and Wildlife Rainbow Trout program. The event officially started at 2 p.m., but there were many people there as much as two hours before the event. Shakespeare rods were awarded to children winners with the longest trout. The Girls’ winner was Caylin Mirkes, with an 11-inch rainbow trout. Macy Ziehr finished in second with a 10-inch rainbow trout. The Boys’ winner was Justin Booth, who caught a 10.5-inch trout. There is a second Family Fishin’ & Fun event scheduled for Wednesday, December 30 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
