The Belton Youth Baseball Association closed out the 2016 spring season at the Texas Teenage Baseball Association (TTAB) state tournaments, held at various towns across Texas last week.
In the 6U T-ball state tournament in Chandler, the Belton Wildcats and Belton Riverdawgs took to the field, looking to advance out of the loser’s bracket.
The Wildcats lost to the Rogers Marlins 22-14 in the first round of the tourney, before fighting back for wins against the Alto Braves 22-14, Buffalo Bisons 24-20, Rice Airhogs 23-13 and Cameron Rockies 20-19 before falling to the Cameron Rockies 18-10 to finish fourth in the state out of 220 registered teams in Texas Teenage Baseball this season.
James Whitmire’s Belton Wildcats are: Camdon Bartek, Lane Cabla, Colton Johnson, Blain Johnson, Keller Lee, Cian McIllaney, Joah Moore, Carlos Ruiz, Oakley Torres, Kyan Whitmire, Lyam Whitmire, Ayden Woods, Braxton Davis and Ryker Peters.
The Riverdawgs fell to the Cameron Rockies and won against the Chandler Horned Frogs in the loser’s in the loser’s bracket before falling to the Rogers Marlins, eliminating them from the tournament.
Cody Randolph’s Belton Riverdawgs are: Bexar Bias, Hunter Butlers, Manuel Jesus Dominguez, Madison Dufault, Holtyn Hodges, Konner Imhoff, Crew Kirch, Andrew McGuire, Bryce Randolph, Pecos Smith, Garrett Stermer, Ryan Truitt, Xavier Graves and Easton Jones.
The Bosqueville Rangers won the 6U tournament.
In the 8U tournament in Cameron, the Belton Tigers and Belton Yankees played in a tough tournament.
The Tigers defeated the Bosqueville Heat 8-3 before falling into the loser’s bracket in a loss to the Rogers Marlins. After eliminating the Temple Pirates, the Tigers and Yankees locked up in a fourth-place game. It was an exciting one, with the Yankees pulling out the win on a walk-off hit. 17-16.
Matt Jarosek’s Belton Tigers are: Alex Aguilar, Kaison Cehand, Mayson Chartier, Zain Cruz, Brson Ellis, Cylar Fuentes, Colby Jarosek, Cason Martinez, Elijah Mungia, Zavian Rodriguez, Krosby Smith, Cavan Pilkington, Hunter Fryman and Kevin De Jesus.
The Yankees defeated the Temple Pirates and lost to the Cameron Yankees to drop them into the loser’s bracket. They defeated the Hillsboro Blackhawks and defeated the Belton Tigers to earn a sport in the third-place game, which ended up a rematch against the Cameron Yankees. That game is one of the featured stories in this week’s Belton Journal Sports section.
The Rogers Marlins won the 8U Coach Pitch state championship.
The Belton Ducks were featured in a series of games in this week’s Belton Journal Sports section from the 10U Tight Base State Tournament in Temple. The teams that the Ducks lost to, the Rusk Astros and Chandler Warriors, met up in the state finals. The Warriors won seven consecutive games to win the state championship from the loser’s bracket.
In the 12U tournament, the Belton Cubs dropped the Chandler Red Sox 10-0, but lost to eventual state champion Bosqueville Heat 5-2 and lost to the state finalist Rusk Astros to finish their season.
Tia McKee’s Belton Cubs are: Jay Baker, Ian Gardner, Joshua Grymes, Bryan “Itty” Henry, Nathaniel Holmes, Brady Johnson, Wesley Kincaid, Garrison Lane, Chase Moore, Noah Newman, Gage White, Richard Willess, Grant Baggerly, Rayford Pete II and Reagan Ragsdale.
In the 14U tournament, the Belton Yankees finished in fourth place overall. After dropping Blooming Grove White 9-5, they lost a tight game to the Axtell Longhorns 5-2. After the Yankees dropped the Lampasas Yellow Jackets 4-3, Belton fell to the eventual state champion Longhorns 7-5 to finish their season.
Jose Morales’ and Mark Trovinger’s Yankees are: Trenton Curry, Jayden Fulcher, Bobby Lott, Johnnie Morales-Nieves, Caleb Pryor, Ethan Reyes, Alex Saldana, Arturo Torres Jr., Coby Trovinger, Canyon Tubbs, Tony Vriseno III, Will Wallace, Jaylen Flores, Rowdy Soliz and Richard Rinehart.
