Six teams from the Cen Tex High School Bass Hunters Club fished in the Texas High School State Championship Saturday on Lake LBJ in Marble Falls for a chance at winning college scholarship money. Overcast skies, 50-60 degree temps., and steady rain did not stop the teams from dominating the standings. Of the six teams who fished the tournament, five placed in the top 12, out of a total of 73 teams entered.
The top seven teams of the event qualified to fish in the High School Regional Conference Championship, to be held in, possibly, Arkansas later this year. The Cen Tex teams filled three of those top seven spots Saturday. The anglers represented themselves and the club well by bringing home second, third, and fourth places, as follows:
Second place went to the team of Justin Tatum and Hunter Garrett for their sack of five fish weighing in at 26.07 pounds, which included Justin’s big bass that weighed 8.0 pounds. Eight more ounces would’ve put them in first place.
Third place went to the team of Tara Reid and Tyler Easley for their five-fish sack, which weighed 22.14 pounds, and included Tyler’s 7.4-pound big bass.
Fourth place went to the team of Logan Drake and Logan Stone who weighed in five fish for a total of 21.05 pounds, including Logan Drake’s 8.4-pound big bass.
With boat captains volunteering their time, boats, coaching, and knowledge, all six teams were able to catch fish and make it to the scales. For some anglers, this was their first big tournament. Many of the anglers achieved their personal best in this tournament.
