The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor’s two newest buildings, the UMHB Student Union Building and Crusader Stadium, are on track.
Crusader Stadium is expected to be almost entirely completed by mid-September, in time for the UMHB’s home season opener against Wesley College on September 21.
The rain from two weeks ago slowed the construction down a bit.
“We are about 85 percent complete,” said Scott Dodd, UMHB’s Campus Planning and Support Services’ Director of Campus Construction. “The next three weeks we will have the push to the city for occupancy. We will be moving in furniture and other miscellaneous things getting ready for game day.”
The Astro turf playing surface will be one of the last things installed, but the preparations are already underway.
“The field surface has been leveled off and the turf should start to be installed this week,” said Dodd. “Next week, most of it will be finished. The net poles are already installed.”
The LCD panels for the scoreboard are in place, as well as the speakers for the sound system. The bricking around the tower poles are set to be completed this week.
Other key milestones that are slated to be completed is the press box roof, the glass facing and enclosing the press suite. The concourses are still in progress, as they are completing the bowl walls. Once the wall is enclosed, the flat work will be worked on and completed.
The seating is also being worked on as well.
“The seat backs are in place and you can see the UMHB outline in the upper deck,” said Dodd.
The student union has made good progress as well.
“We’re trying to get the roof completed on that building and have started terrazzo work on the interior,” said Dodd. “Elevators are starting to go in and the stairwell installation is completed. Most of the walls have been sheet rocked and primed with a coat of paint. The storefront openings are set to get underway very soon. The ceilings will be framed up and mechanical systems in the ceilings should be completed shortly.”
The student union is looking at a mid-November completion.
