Members of the Central Texas College (CTC) forensics (speech) team recently competed at the Bayou Speech and Debate tournament held at San Jacinto College – North in Houston. Peter Wilson, team captain, placed sixth in the open division of extemporaneous speaking where he competed against members of nationally-ranked teams including the University of Texas-Austin and Texas State University. Wilson also placed fifth in the community college division for Impromptu Speaking. Dillon Stadick, sophomore, competed in the community college division and placed fourth in Impromptu Speaking and third in Extemporaneous Speaking. Freshman Chris Brooks won first place in Informative Speaking in the community college division. Keyah Williams, freshman, also competed in the prose interpretation category.
CTC will now host the Heart of Texas Swing Speech and Debate tournament at the Killeen campus, November 13-15. The tournament is open to all universities and community colleges and will feature various speaking events including persuasive, informative, after-dinner and impromptu speaking, poetry and prose interpretation, communication analysis, parliamentary debate rounds and competitive dramatic performance.
