Central Texas College (CTC) will host its annual Math Appreciation Day event on Thursday, April 9 from 6 – 8 p.m. in the Anderson Campus Center (Bldg. 156). The free event is part of the Mathematical Association of America’s celebration of Math Awareness Month and features a week full of activities and games in which students can win prizes.
Guest speaker will be Ron Larson, mathematics professor at Penn State’s Behrend College Campus in Erie, PA. He is also the author of the current CTC calculus textbook. Larson is an active member of three American mathematics teaching organizations: the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges and the Mathematical Association of America.
In addition, the CTC math department will offer a variety of games and activities for students including scavenger hunts, trivia contests, programming challenges throughout the day.
The CTC Math Appreciation Day event is part of Mathematics Awareness Month which has been held each year in April since 1986 to increase public understanding of and appreciation for mathematics. The CTC event is free and open to the public.
