Ed Bandas, the Founder/Race Director of the Army Marathon, has been selected to serve as Belton’s first Retail Development Coordinator.  Mr. Bandas, a Temple native and Belton resident, was chosen after an extensive recruitment that began in October 2014, following creation of the position and funding by Belton’s Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ).  Interest in the new position was strong, with 26 applications received and 5 interviews conducted.

“I have lived in Belton for the past five years and found it a dynamic place to do business and a wonderful community in which to make my home,” Ed Bandas said. “I look forward to working towards making Belton the ideal place where Central Texans come to work and live.”

The objective of the job of Retail Development Coordinator is to plan, implement, and manage a comprehensive program fostering positive retail and commercial economic development in Belton, with special emphasis on the TIRZ boundary including Downtown, the south IH 35 corridor, and existing and anticipated retail areas.

Coordination with the Belton Area Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Merchants Association, and the Belton Economic Development Corporation will be important, as Belton seeks to enhance retail development opportunities for citizens.
Belton City Manager Sam Listi said Mr. Bandas was selected because of his unique combination of personal and professional assets, including:
•    Education: BBA in Marketing from Stephen F. Austin University in 1990
•    Military Service: Four years of service in the U.S. Marine Corps
•    Business Experience: Eighteen years of employment in a variety of retail/commercial ventures     including sales consultant, real estate brokerage, and financial advisor
•    Army Marathon: Founder/Director for the Army Marathon, 2012- Present

“Mr. Bandas has demonstrated the leadership ability throughout his career to define an issue of importance, develop a strategy to address it, and build strong relationships in pursuit of success.  He will be a great addition to the City of Belton team,” Mr. Listi said.

Ed Bandas will begin his position in Belton as Retail Development Coordinator on Monday, March 30, 2015.
