Statistics can be a big driver in the success of a team. Some players have good statistics. Others have out of this world statistics.
But the performance on the field when the game is on the line can render statistics irrelevant.
Sidney Holman and Kaitlyn Jones have made a living in their varsity careers of coming through in clutch situations. It is no surprise that the pair are two of 40 players have been selected to the 2015 Texas Girls Coaches Association’s All-State Team.
Holman went 21-7 in 2015 with a 1.33 earned run average and 241 strikeouts in 158 innings, a school record for strikeouts in a season. She surpassed her own school record and doing so in 20 less innings. She also added pop to the lineup starting in the middle of the district season, ending up with a .412 average, hitting her first career home run against Rowlett in the Class 6A Regional Quarterfinal Series and had 12 runs batted in.
Jones hit .487 (hit over .600 in district play for the second year in a row) with two home runs, 28 runs batted in, 36 runs and 38 hits. She hit an amazing .667 (22-of-33) with runners in scoring position.
Carlee Duran of Copperas Cove and Taylor Ellis and Rhein Trochim of Waco Midway were also named to the All-State Team out of District 12-6A.
