The Scott & White College of Nursing at UMHB conducted a four-day summer nursing camp for high school juniors and seniors June 9-13. This was a multifaceted summer in-residence program, the only such nursing camp in Texas. An in-residence program means that the students live on the campus for the duration of the camp.

During Monday’s Commissioners Court meeting, the Commissioners renewed the annual contracts with CrowderGulf and Ceres Environmental for disaster and/or storm recovery services for Bell County with no changes from last year. Having these contracts in place help ease the burden and scramble if a natural disaster were to happen in Bell County. Instead of searching for companies to assist immediately following a disaster, these providers are already under contract. If Federal Emergency Management Agency is engaged after a disaster, these contracts can also assist with reimbursement.

Belton’s very own community movie theater was recently featured in two magazines, Film Journal International and American Builders Quarterly. While both articles focused on different aspects of the theater, they agreed the draw of Grand Avenue Theaters comes not from the movies, but from the small town feel and inviting atmosphere.
“Belton is a historic town, so [the owners] wanted to have that kind of classical, old-school look to the building,” General Manager Daniel Bucher said. “It’s supposed to look like a downtown building with all the different bricks on the outside, and they definitely captured that. It’s different; it’s elegant.”
