The 2015 Belton Lady Tiger Powerlifting team went with a purpose: Building momentum for a state championship run. Their performance last Thursday in Hewitt at the Midway Invitational proved that they are up for the challenge. With three first-place lifters, five second-place lifters and a fifth-place lifter, the Lady Tigers’ 53 points easily won the meet. Copperas had the most first-place lifters for the meet (four) and third-place lifters (three), but could only manage 38 points for second place. Waco University, Dripping Springs and Midway all finished third (22 points) and Temple finished sixth (5 points).
Here are the top five Belton finishers and their weight classes:
105 class: Madey Myers (first place, 480 pounds), Ariana Garcia (second place, 470 pounds), Kathryn Blevins (fourth place, 335 pounds) and Cheyenne Griffin (fifth place, 280 pounds).
114 class: Maria Martinez (second place tie, 485 pounds).
132 class: Siw Dovalo (third place tie, 480 pounds) and Kaylee Krog (fifth place, 475).
148 class: Dana Young (first place, 700 pounds), Camryn Ward (second place, 600 pounds), Kamiryn Rodriguez (third place, 595 pounds) and Brittani Castillo (fifth place, 540 pounds).
165 class: Morgan Callin (first place, 680 pounds), Kayla Dippel (second place, 655 pounds) and Autumn Conley (fourth place, 625 pounds).
198 class: Katie Jones (second place, 620 pounds).
220 class: Abby Dolan (second place, 660 pounds).
220+ class: Kaitlyn King (second place, 645 pounds).
The Lady Tigers will return to competition this Saturday at Lake Belton Middle School in the 2015 Tiger Invitational, with first lifts starting at 8 a.m.
