North Belton-South Belton excitement sends teams into Christmas break

Monday night, North Belton hosted South Belton at home.

The 7B team jumped out to a quick 21 point lead and was able to hold South to two points in the first half. North scored 14 points in the second half to South’s one, giving North the win 35-3.

Hana Erskine had 12 points in the paint, two second chance points, and one free throw giving her a total of 15 points for the game. Erskine also had three offensive rebounds, two defensive rebounds, two assists, and 18 steals. Stormie Snow had six points, all of them being in the paint, and four of them being second chance points. Snow also had three offensive rebounds, one defensive rebound, and one steal. Ella Pusey scored four points, all of them being in the paint. Pusey had three offensive rebounds, and one defensive rebound. Madison O’Neal scored three points, two under the basket, and one free throw. O’Neal had one offensive rebound. Macie Curry scored three points, two of them being under the basket and one free throw. Curry also had four offensive rebounds, and one defensive rebound. Morgan Weber scored two second chance points in the paint. Weber had four offensive rebounds, and one steal. Jenna Montgomery scored two second chance points in the paint. Montgomery had one offensive rebound, and two defensive rebounds.

Abryonna Munoz had one defensive rebound and one steal. Skylar Jarnigan and Madison Valchar both had two defensive rebounds.

The 7th A team came out with a win against South Belton Middle School.  The final score was 38 – 12.  Evie Nix led the way with a dominating 25 points. Nix led the team with nine offensive rebounds, seven defensive rebounds, five steals and one assist. Rachel Mahan followed up and a strong eight points. Mahan was able to get in two steals and three rebounds as well.  Kayla Truelove played a great game with two points and one free throw.  Truelove also ended with three offensive rebounds and one defensive rebound.  Natalie Thomson finished the game with two points, three offensive rebounds, two defensive rebounds and two assists for points. Veronica Morales came in with a strong defensive game with five rebounds and two steals.  Madeline Osborn played strong with one rebound, three assists for points and one steal.  Karina Fisher ended with two rebounds and two steals for the game.  Campbell Burnett had a strong defensive game with five rebounds and three steals.  NBMS 7A girls played like a solid team with great communication and team work.  This is a great view of what is to come with the season.

The 8B team won 33-2. North played a great defensive game, only allowing two points, which were both off of free throws. In the first quarter, North jumped to an early lead of 10-1. Ariah Deleon and Briana Russell each made two baskets, and Leah Taylor made one basket in the first quarter. By half time, North was leading 21-1. Taylor made two more baskets. Ashlyn Emerson, Aly Lopez, and Lakyn Mingst each added one basket and Kalynn Smith made one of her two free throws for one point. For the third quarter, North scored six more points to give them a lead of 27-2. Points came from Russell, Mingst, and Smith, each with one basket. In the fourth quarter, Russell added two more baskets and Mingst added one more basket to give North a final score of 33. Overall, Russell led the team in points with 10 points.  Taylor and Mingst each added six points. Deleon and Lopez both added four points, and Smith added three points. Deleon led the team in rebounds with five. Mingst had four rebounds. Russell and Sydney Fox each had three rebounds. Smith and Brendall O’Banon each added two rebounds. Taylor and Jourden Whitley added one rebound each. Deleon also led the team in steals. She made eight steals during the game. Russell made five steals. Smith and Mingst each made four steals, and Jourden made three steals. Fox made two steals and Lopez, Emerson, and O’Banon each made one steal.

The 8A team jumped out to an early 10-4 lead after the first quarter. Some great defense from both teams led to multiple turnovers and steals. In the second quarter, North extended their lead to 22-8 at halftime. Jocelyn Brewer and Brindley Bradford led North in scoring in the first half with six points each. In the third quarter, North pushed the lead further to 32-13 behind Alexis Wade’s four points. Fourth quarter, North kept South from scoring and extended the score to a final 43-13.Leading scorer for North was Wade with 12 points. Bradford and Brewer added ten and nine, respectively. Shayden Spradley and Payton Cook added four points each. Jasey Goings and Elizabeth Smith added two points apiece. Cook led North with five steals. Brewer, Smith, and Kaylee Maddox each added four steals. Goings and Wade added two steals apiece, and Spradley added two steals. Brewer led North with six rebounds. Wade and Smith each added five rebounds. Cook and Goings had three rebounds each. Maddox and Bradford each had one rebound. Maddox led the team with six assists. Bradford and Spradley each added three assists.
