Get out and play this weekend and help Belton celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month as they host activities all over town. Put on some sunscreen and pack some water bottles and bug spray, as the fun will begin just as the sun has risen and will continue into the night.
The City of Belton and the Belton Parks and Recreation Department have plenty of recreation activities planned for Saturday, July 16, 2016, to celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month.
The activities include:
The first event of the day will be “Dog-N-Jog” starting at 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. Participants will meet at Harris Community Park located at 401 N. Alexander. The event will take place along the Nolan Creek Hike & Bike Trail that follows the picturesque Nolan Creek.
This free event will be a fun way to start the morning and the day’s events. Participants and their “best friends” will walk along the Hike and Bike Trail, which travels through three of Belton’s parks, while following beautiful Nolan Creek the whole way.
Water and doggy treats will be available for all four-legged participants, along with complimentary water and coffee for those with two legs.
Dust off your baseball mitt and don a ball cap and head on down to the park to watch a softball game, with teams comprised of City employees and friends at 9:00 a.m. The softball game will be played at Chisholm Trail Softball Complex, 3115 Dunns Canyon.
If kicking a ball and running the bases is more your thing, there will be a kickball game going on at the same time as softball. The kickball game will be held at an adjacent field to the softball game
Do you like digging your heels in the sand and diving for a ball? Then come check out a friendly volleyball game. The game will begin at about 10:00 a.m. at the volleyball pit at Chisholm Trail Park, 3115 Dunns Canyon. Come out meet your friends and play a little beach style volleyball.
Take a break from the heat from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. until the evening events kick-off. If you still want to make a day of it, you and the family can stay cool by enjoying the splash pads or going for dip in Nolan Creek
Grab some blankets or chairs, pack a picnic and come end the day with your family and friends at Harris Community Park located at 401 N. Alexander. Harris Park will be hosting “Movie in The Park” and will be showing “Inside Out” at 7:00 p.m. on the big screen under the stars, so don’t forget your bug repellant.
There will also be plenty of family friendly activities at Harris Park during the movie and will start at 7:30 p.m. Activities will include a water balloon toss, egg on the spoon races, and potato sack races.
