Special to The Belton Journal
Visiting Angels gathered at a special client’s home last week to celebrate his 100th birthday. Roy Cox of Belton enjoyed the party and was joined by his son, Rod. The celebration included gourmet cupcakes and balloons; the staff presented him with a hand-made fleece blanket.
Mr. Cox was born May 27, 1915 in Louisiana. He graduated from a 2-year business degree program and owned his own accounting business for a couple of years. He also had a couple of years work each with Goodyear Tire and a repossession business before having a 45+ year career with Bell Telephone.
Much of his time with Bell Telephone included work at Keesler Air Force Base; however, he was such a valuable manager, they wouldn’t allow him to join the military.
“When Mom and Dad where in their 80s, they decided it would be a good idea to live closer to family, so they moved to Orange, Texas, to live close to me,” stated his son Rod.
Once Roy’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were living in Kyle and Keller, Texas, the decision was made to move to Belton in 2003 so that they could be equally close to all of them.
Visiting Angels is a living assistance services organization. Our caregivers provide a variety of services to include: hygiene assistance, meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, transportation, errands, medication reminders, incontinence care, bathing, grooming and dressing, light exercise, shopping, companionship, etc. Caregivers are available to clients on an hourly basis, for extended stays, and even 24-hour (live-in) service wherever they reside. Some families choose to use our services in addition to, or as an alternative to, living arrangements at independent living facilities, assisted living facilities, or skilled nursing facilities.
Visiting Angels’ caregivers have varying levels of experience; all have passed extensive background checks, are bonded, and undergo basic and client-specific training. We match caregivers who have the appropriate skills to best fulfill the client’s individual needs. Best of all, each client always has the opportunity to meet with our staff to choose the caregiver after a personal interview.
