Special to the Journal

On Monday, July 18, St. Stephen Catholic Church in Salado sent twelve pilgrims to World Youth Day in Krakow, Poland.
World Youth Day (WYD) is a worldwide encounter with the Pope which is typically celebrated every three years in a different county. The most recent WYD was celebrated in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from July 23rd to 28th, 2013 and students and adults from St. Stephen attended.
WYD is open to all young people who want to take part in a festive encounter with their contemporaries centered on Jesus Christ. This is an opportunity to experience in first person the universality of the Church to share with the whole world the hope of many young people who want to commit themselves to Christ and others. During the week of World Youth Day the pilgrims will participate in a complete cultural agenda as well as participate in mission work, listen to national speakers and attend special event s with the Pope.
Pilgrims attending from St. Stephen are Zachary Moreno, Gloria Villareal, Haniel Cruz, Diana Arias, Alma Perez, Jasmin Ortiz, Natalie McBryde, Erin McBryde, Rebecca Sanchez, Angelica Hernandez, Cathy Cleveland, and Eduardo Lloma. The students have been planning and fund raising for several years to make this trip a reality. They would like to thank all those in the community who have helped and donated to their youth fund raising events.
