National Night Out is an annual event being held on October 4th this year. Residents gather together and have block parties to get to know one another and the first responders of Belton.
“National night out is basically where we try to unite the community against crime and get neighbors together, also for the police to interact with the people that they serve and just it’s a crime prevention type of tactic. Everyone gets to know each other and gets to know the police on a more personal level,” said officer Doug Taylor.
All around the nation, there are more than 37 million people in nearly 16,000 communities who take part in National Night Out.
“We are looking for party hosts in the local neighborhoods. We want to spread it out throughout the city. You can contact the police department or go online to the city website to register to become a party host,” Said Taylor.
The Belton Police Department is hoping that this annual event will help to shed a more positive light on our first responders and to help the community get to know each other better.
If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a host you can contact the Belton Police Department at (254) 933-5840.
