The Belton Lady Tigers Powerlifting team performed well at the Regional Meet on Saturday at Kyle Lehman High School.
Belton finished with eight top six finishes, good for a second-place finish with 222 points.
Dana Young, a state-finalist in 2015 in the 148-lb. weight class, won the 132-lb. weight class with a total weight lifted of 795 pounds (300 pounds on squats, 180 on bench and 315 on deadlift). She also earned Outstanding Bench with a lift of 180 pounds.
Sydney Andrews, who was busy with powerlifting and softball late last week, won the 148-lb. weight class with a total weight lifted of 845 (325-170-350).
Arianna Garcia finished second in the 105-lb. weight class with a total weight of 635 lbs (265-110-260).
Aabrie Hardy finished third in the 123-lb. weight class with a total weight of 680 lbs (265-140-275).
Maria Martinez finished in sixth place in the 123-lb. weight class with a total weight of 670 pounds (275-110-285).
McKenna Thompson finished sixth in the 132-lb. weight class with a total weight of 655 pounds (230-125-300).
Maggie Dolan finished sixth in the 181-lb. weight class with a total weight of 775 pounds (295-155-325).
Julianna Rodriguez finished sixth in the 198-lb. weight class with a total weight of 780 pounds (290-160-330).
Destinee Batista finished seventh in the 114-lb. weight class with a total weight of 580 pounds (240-100-240).
Morgan Callin finished seventh in the 181-lb. weight class with a total weight of 780 pounds (290-165-305).
Kamiryn Rodriguez finished eighth in the 165-lb. weight class with a total weight of 660 pounds (260-140-260).
Belton qualified seven girls for the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Meet at American Bank Center in Corpus Christi on March 18: Arianna Garcia, Destinee Batista, Aabrie Hardy, Dana Young, Sidney Andrews, Maggie Dolan and Julianna Rodriguez.
Tigers Powerlifters sending 11 to regionals
The Belton Powerlifting team will send 11 regional qualifiers from its 2016 team to the 2016 Texas High School Powerlifting Regional Meet at Georgetown East View High School on Saturday. The meet will begin at 2 p.m.
Here are the athletes who qualified for the regional meet and the total pounds lifted to qualify:
Abe Villarreal in the 114 weight class (qualified at 885 total pounds lifted, 325 on squat, 170 on bench and 390 on deadlift).
Christian Castillo in the 132 weight class (375-175-375=920).
Jacob Lewallen in the 165 weight class (470-230-500=1,200).
Alex Aaron in the 181 weight class (475-270-425=1,170).
Buddy Curry (470-310-460=1,240) and John Harvey (525-315-515=1,355) in the 198 weight class.
Jerry Leyba in the 220 weight class (540-290-520=1,350).
Arturo Jaimes in the 242 weight class (495-260-525=1,280).
Brandon Gangloff in the 242 lbs. weight class (530-345-490=1,365).
Braden Martinez in the 275 weight class (710-380-610=1,700).
Javon Chambers in the SHW weight class (740-385-525=1,650).
“We are very proud of what these young men have accomplished so far this year,” Belton strength and condition coach Sam Skidmore said. “These young men lead the team to first place team finishes at the Belton Meet, Temple Meet, Midway Meet, and Copperas Cove Meet.”
