The Temple Police Department, in cooperation with the Central Texas Housing Consortium, announces the opening of a departmental field office. The field office, located at the “Friendship House” 1601 E. Avenue I, will perform a multitude of roles for patrol officers, COPS Unit officers and community members.
The new office represents an enhancement of the department’s community policing activities. At this time two officers from the department’s Community Oriented Police Services Unit will be assigned to work from this site. It is the department’s goal that the COPS officers’ assigned to the location will become intimately familiar with the area residents and problems facing the community.
The field office will also provide a location for patrol officers to conduct interviews and complete reports. The site should allow patrol officers to remain in or near their patrol districts by lessening the need of those officers to travel to the main police headquarters in order to conduct routine business.
The Temple Police Department is currently assessing possible locations for additional field offices throughout the city. Field offices are not staffed 24 hours a day, and non-emergency requests for service must still be made via the department’s main telephone number, (254) 298-5500, or 9-1-1 for emergencies.
