Eight Central Texas students each received a $500.00 scholarship from the local tribes/councils of the Texas Red Men Foundation, Great Council of Texas.
Recipients were honored with a dinner at Texas Land and Cattle in Killeen on May 24, 2016.
Those awarded scholarships were Kelly M. Clipper-Sam Houston State University, Megan E. Jackson-Central Texas A&M, James J. McGowan-Central Texas College, Erica D. Pritchard-Tarleton State University, Cody D. Ellis-University of Mary Hardin Baylor, Courtney Kissel-Texas A&M-Central Texas College, Alexander P. Borchardt-University of Texas Austin, and Sarah D. Untalan-Texas A&M-Central Texas College.
Central Texas is home to six chapters of the Great Council of Texas. Those chapters are Wampum Tribe #5, Omega Tribe #38, Kiowa Tribe #33, Wampum Council #18, Wanonah Council # 3, and Dakota Council #22.
