Tigers, Lady Tigers pick up big wins over Ellison on Tuesday

The Lady Tigers defeated Killeen Ellison in a physical mismatch at Tiger Field 8-0. Ellison never threatened in the game, with Belton’s midfield and defense dominating. Tiarra Hodges scored three goals and Emma Stinson two leading the Lady Tigers.
Allison Navarro set up Hodges for the first point blank shot of the game less than a minute in.
Harlie Wiley with a steal passed to Navarro who set up Stinson for the game-winning goal with 38:18 left in the first half. Navarro beat two players driving to within five yards of the goal. Navarro bounced her shot off the goalie to make it 2-0. Stinson hit a crossing pass, setting up Navarro. Hodges set up defender Alexis Mack whose shot was wide.
Mattie Krenek set up a corner kick. On the attempt, Mack’s header hit the right side bar of the goal.
Hodges’s shot from 25-yards out was just wide of the goal.
Caroline Stegall’s shot was blocked setting up a corner kick. Hodges scored off the corner kick to make it 3-0 with 26:17 left in the first half.
A pass sequence from Mack to Wiley to Erica Anderson, who passed to a wide open Izzy Rhoads whose shot was just off the mark. Navarro sets up Hodges to make it 4-0 with 23:49 left in the first half.
Krenek set up a corner kick at 12:38. Stegall set up Krenek whose shot was blocked setting up another corner kick. Mack’s header was just over the top cross bar.
Sarah Shepard had a shot go just over the top bar. Shepard struck a perfect shot from the far corner in the goal in the upper 90’s to make it 5-0. It was struck so well that the shot was not defendable.
Erica Anderson made a stop on defense on a breakaway. No shot was taken by Ellison in the first half.
Belton began subbing players in the first half. Krenek added a goal in the second half. Kate Gist had an assist.
The Lady Tigers a 4-0 in district traveling to Midway Friday night for a key matchup. Their ball movement and anticipation of where each other will be on the field is getting to a playoff level.
The Tigers boy’s soccer team defeated Ellison 2-1 in Killeen. The Tigers host Midway at Wilson-Kerzee Field Friday.
