The Belton JV Red Tigers baseball team hosted the Shoemaker Grey Wolves JV squad at Tiger Field Monday night.
It didn’t take long for the Tigers to show Shoemaker who the better team was, as Belton scored two runs in the first inning, four in the second inning, a run in the third inning and five runs in the fourth inning to give Belton a 12-0, four-and-a-half inning win over Shoemaker.
Xavier Haines threw a two-hit shutout, striking out six.
Haines ended up scoring the winning run in the first inning, as part of a two-run first. He and Remington Lutz scored in the first inning.
In the second inning, Trey Bell, Logan Earl, Breck Potvin and Haines scored. In the third inning, Dawson Lowry scored on an RBI double from John Taggart.
The Tigers broke the game open in the fourth inning, as Haines, Lowry, Jeremy Jones, Eric Hoffman and Will Drake scored.
Belton had a pair of defensive gems from the catching position. In the third, Taggart recovered a wild pitch and tossed the ball to Haines at the plate to preserve the shutout and in the fifth, Jacob Dumas threw out a runner with one out to keep Shoemaker off the board.
