The West Belton-Harris High Ex-Students Association is busy preparing for its 17th bi-annual reunion to be held at the Harris Community Center, July 22-24.
The reunion will begin Friday, July 22, with a banquet at 6 p.m. The banquet will be followed with a prayer breakfast Saturday morning, July 23, at 9 a.m.
A dance will be held at 8 p.m. The reunion will conclude with a memorial service at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 24.
West Belton Colored School was established in 1882 as a three-room frame building on the banks of the Nolan Creek. Professor Thomas Breckenridge Harris, a graduate of Fisk University, became an instructor at the school until his death in 1907.
West Belton became Harris High in 1936 after a fire destroyed the old frame structure in 1935. Additional information on the reunion can be obtained by contacting Ora Jean Butler, president of the association, at 254-933-0250 or Estella Murray at 254-939-8536.
