A proposition on the City of Belton’s May 4 special election ballot passed, with voters approving the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages within the city.

A total of 382 cast votes in favor of the measure, and 132 against.

The council accepted the petition from voters earlier this year to call for the special election.

The main goal of the ballot item was to broaden the scope of alcohol sales in Belton.

Prior to the election there were disparate alcohol ordinances that made it challenging for local businesses to sell alcohol.

The Belton City Council canceled the May 4 general election, as incumbents David K. Leigh and Craig Pearson were unopposed.

Voters also reelected the incumbent to the Belton Independent School District board of trustees Area 4.

Board Vice President Chris Flor received 188 votes, with Leslie Ann Griggs Davis receiving 69 votes.

The board canceled the Area 2 Trustee Election, as Erin Bass, the Board Secretary representing Area 2, drew no opponent.
