Miller Heights Elementary School Counselor Susan Holmes was selected as the School Counselor of the Year for Education Service Center (ESC) Region 12. The award was announced at the ESC Region 12 School Counselor Appreciation Luncheon in Waco on June 6.

Holmes was selected from among 20 counselors who were nominated. This is the first year that ESC Region 12 has presented the award, which recognizes a professional school counselor who is “truly making a difference in the lives of children.”

Holmes has been a counselor at Miller Heights Elementary since joining Belton ISD in 2005. Previously, she served as a middle school counselor and as an elementary and middle school teacher in other districts in Texas and Louisiana.

“I want to congratulate Susan Holmes on this much deserved recognition,” said Dr. Susan Kincannon, Superintendent of Belton ISD. “Our counselors are an important part of the BISD Team. Their work helps prepare every student to excel in tomorrow’s world.”

“Susan is passionate about her work and incredibly dedicated to her students,” Miller Heights Elementary School Principal Deena Cornblum said.

“She is adamant that all students succeed and will perform any task necessary to facilitate student learning, safety, and overall well-being.”
