Jeffrey Ray Houston        

January 7, 1981 – April 25, 2024

Services for Jeffrey Ray Houston, 43, of Temple was held on Wednesday, May 1, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Academy with Brent Boatwright officiating. Visitation was held on Sunday, April 28, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Scanio Harper Funeral Home in Temple, Texas.

Mr. Houston died Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Our Hospice House in Temple, Texas.

He was born on January 7, 1981 in Austin, Texas to Carroll and Sharon Houston. He graduated from Holland High School in 1999. He graduated with a BS in Kinesiology from Sam Houston State University in 2005. In 2019, he earned a Master’s in Educational Administration from Lamar University.

He married Laura Doerfler on July 7, 2006.

Mr. Houston worked for Conroe, Academy and Killeen Independent School Districts as a beloved teacher, coach, offensive coordinator, attendance truancy officer, and an assistant principal. He was also very involved in youth sports. He touched the lives of many youths by serving as a youth coach at Belton Christian Youth Center, Belton Youth Baseball Association, 323 Flag Football and FC Belton soccer leagues.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hudson and Evelyn Leshikar of Taylor, Texas and George and Dorothy Houston of Little River-Academy, Texas; uncles, George Wayne Houston and Charles Houston and an aunt, Linda Kelso.

He is survived by his wife, Laura, and son, Drew, of Temple; his parents, Carroll and Sharon Houston of Holland; his sister, Carrie Romero of Temple; his in-laws, Mary and Jimmy Doerfler of Temple; his sister-in-law, Angela Williams and husband, Kyle, of The Woodlands; nephews, Ben Romero and Cooper Williams and niece, Charli Williams; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
