The 2015 Belton Lady Tigers’ Powerlifting team a set of tough, physical lifters from all sets of the Belton athletic program. With mainstays of the program, like Kaitlynn King (220+ class), Abbey Dolan (220 class), Danessa Ruiz (198 class), Brittani Castillo (148 class) and Dana Young (148 class) helping lead the group, the Lady Tigers bring in a good class of freshmen in.
“I love being a role model to the new powerlifters,” Castillo said. “I like feeling like a good leader and like teaching the new lifters what I know.”
Castillo, in her second season on the Lady Tigers Powerlifting team following her conversion from being a Magic Belle dancer, worked on her lifting throughout the year and is personally looking to better her 2014 performance. “My max squat was 210,” Castillo said. “This year, I want to be at 250 or 260. My bench was 100 and this year I want to be around 150. Deadlift was 245 in 2014 and I am shooting for 300 this season.”
Senior BHS cheerleader Madey Myers returns to the team after a year away from team. Kamiryn Rodriguez, a Belton softball player, also joins the team to be able to build her up for the 2015 campaign.
“I am trying to make the varsity softball team this season,” Rodriguez said. “With powerlifting, it helps get me in shape for the season.”
