Lake Belton Softball continued their District 22-5A campaign on Friday night, as they hosted the Killeen Lady Roos at Bronco Diamond.

The Broncos scored 12 runs in the first inning and used a combined one-hitter from Maddison Ruiz and Natalie Hosch to power past the Lady Roos, 19-0 in four innings.

Lake erased an early Roo runner that reached on a hit-by-pitch to lead off the game, as Angie DeLeon fielded a fly ball at third base and fired a throw across to Madison Naser to double up the runner.

Shelby Schultz doubled home Vic Shimabukuro to begin the scoring in the bottom of the first. Following a pair of hit batters that loaded the bases, Shelby Schultz scored on a passed ball and Naser’s single scored Casey Schultz and DeLeon to put the Broncos on top 4-0.

Ruiz tripled home Naser, Madison Perkins scored on a passed ball, Alexis Ortiz singled in Haley Hoffman, Shelby Schultz’s ground out scored Ortiz, an error scored Addison Sims, Shimabukuro scored on a fielder’s choice, and Naser’s double scored two runs as the Broncos exited the first inning with an 11-0 lead.

Hoffman’s solo homer started the second barrage. Shimabukuro doubled home Ortiz, Sims scored on an error, a bases-loaded walk to DeLeon, and an RBI double by Naser increased the Broncos’ lead to 17-0.

A bases-loaded walk to Shimabukuro and an RBI single by Lily Piedra in the third inning wrapped up the Broncos’ scoring.

Naser collected three hits and drove home five runs to lead the Broncos’ 12-hit attack. Shimabukuro, Hoffman, and Ortiz each scored three times.

“We were able to achieve every goal during the game,” Lake Belton head coach Kelsie McEachern said. “Getting the double play in the first inning helped the momentum and set the tone.”

Following a Tuesday night matchup at Ellison, the Broncos will host Shoemaker on Friday at Bronco Diamond.
