Melvin Eugene Elkins         

October 24, 1937 – April 27, 2024 

Melvin Eugene Elkins, age 86, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Park Place Manor nursing home in Belton, Texas. Services will be held at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Belton on Thursday, May 2, 2024, with a visitation starting at 10 a.m. and service immediately following at 11 a.m. Burial will be at North Belton Cemetery.

Melvin was born October 24,1937 in Belton to W. C. “Curt” Elkins and Alice Tims (Elkins) Privett. He weighed in at a whopping 12 pounds. He was a life-long resident of Belton.

He married Virginia Ann Blair on June 10, 1954. They were a few weeks away from celebrating their 70th anniversary. They have one daughter, Debra.

Melvin worked as a truck driver for many years. In 1961, he went to work for King Brothers concrete. He retired in 1998. For many years following his retirement, he served as a volunteer at Helping Hands Ministry and received Volunteer of the Year award in 2002.

He was a member of the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ in Belton where he served as a board member and Sunday School teacher for many years. Up until his illness in 2019, he rarely missed a service.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, W.C. Elkins and Alice Tims Privett; his brothers, Curtis Elkins, Joe Elkins, John Robert Elkins and sister, Rose Palmer.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; his daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Odis Ganey; his grandchildren, Rebekah Edens-Henderson, Michael Ganey and Gabriel Ganey; and eight great grandchildren.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff at Park Place Manor and the nurses and chaplain at Gentiva Hospice.
