Brant Bernstein and Keith Dyer were sworn in as new council members for Morgan’s Point Resort at a special meeting on Tuesday. Mary Marrow was honored for her many years of service. She did not run for a position in the recent election. Fred Ybanez was also honored for his previous services on the council. Ric Holmes was named Mayor Pro Tem at the meeting.
MPR also held a public meeting on the voluntary annexation of 20 acres of land in the David Compton Survey with no public input given. This tract of land is at the intersection of MPR Road and Sobrante Rd.
The council went into executive session to discuss the possible acceptance of annexation of 0.98 acres of land that Frances Nash submitted. MPR cannot annex land without it being voluntarily submitted. The community is a Type A general law city.
There was investigation with the state into what could be done because of a protest from a citizen who rented land in the area in question. The owner of the land has the right to request the land in question be annexed. The major issue was if the city could provide services to the area to be annexed.
The council approved the annexation presented by Nash in the G.C. Frailey Survey. The vote was unanimous. It did present some unique issues because of the property in questing being rented to another citizen. The rights of the renter of the property remained in force. The issue came down to whether, truly, the council could deny the request for annexation.
