Special to the Journal
At their regular July 15 meeting, the Belton ISD Board of Trustees received updates highlighting the partnerships between the district, individuals and local organizations.
Ellen Burnett, president of the Belton Education Enrichment Foundation (BEEF), presented the foundation’s annual report which celebrated investments the organization has made in BISD in the form of teacher grants and scholarships during the 2023-24 school year. Teacher grants totaled $141,953 last school year and the foundation awarded $495,400 to 194 students from all three BISD high schools this spring.
In a gesture of appreciation, the Board presented BEEF with a community partner award, which is given to outstanding local businesses and organizations that demonstrate extraordinary support for the district’s students and staff.
Trustees also recognized Walmart on West Adams with a community partner award for their service and generosity to Belton ISD staff and area residents following the tornado that struck the community in May.
The Board of Trustees adopted Key Progress Measures aligned with the District goals established in February 2024. Significant efforts will be made to advance these five Board-adopted goals.
Deputy Superintendent Mike Morgan updated the Board on projects funded through the 2022 voter-approved bond.
James L. Burrell Elementary is substantially complete and opened in January 2024, and Hubbard Branch Elementary is now substantially complete and set to open in August 2024.
Morgan reported that several major projects are in the final phases, including:
● The gymnasium, music, and art classroom additions at Southwest Elementary;
• The fine arts and athletics areas at Lake Belton Middle School;
• The Career and Technical Education (CTE) and fine arts additions, upgrades at existing CTE spaces, and other capital improvements and renovations at Belton High School.
