February 4, 1959 – August 31, 2024

Matthew Foy Tominey II, fondly known as Matt, left this world on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at his home in Temple, Texas. Born on February 4, 1959, in Warren, Ohio, Matt was a remarkable individual who dedicated his life to making a positive impact on the lives of students with disabilities and learning differences.

Matt’s academic journey began at Richardson High School, where he established life long friendships, was a talented athlete and state wrestling champion. Matt furthered his education at the University of North Texas in Denton, where he continued to cultivate lasting friendships. Matt was very proud to let everyone he met know that he earned his PhD at the University of Texas at Austin where his commitment to knowledge and advocacy flourished. Throughout his professional career, Matt served as an administrator and Director of Disability Services for students at several prestigious Ivy League universities; a role he was committed to with passion and dedication.

Matt had an innate sense of caring, with a competitive and adventurous spirit. Matt found his purist joy with family, friends and of course, animals. His children, Matthew and Maggie are his most cherished and proudest accomplishments.

Matt was an enthusiastic sports fan passionately supporting his favorite teams, UT Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. Matt was always ready for a burger and sweet tea, any day of the week.

Matt faced the challenging battle of early onset frontotemporal dementia with an unwavering zest for life. Despite this difficulty, he remained active, always making sure the backyard birds had food and water, spontaneous trips to the lake and weekly get-togethers with his children and their families.

Matt is survived by his loving mother, Kathleen (Golias) Tominey; his devoted wife, Stephanie LeRoy; his son, Matthew Foy Tominey III, and his wife Jaclyn Verbitski, grandson Leif; his daughter, Margaret Tominey, and her fiancé Joshua Meehan; and his four sisters: Anne Garrett and her husband Raymond, Kathleen Roberts, Susan Anderson and her husband Stuart, Elizabeth Tominey, and his many nieces and nephews.  Matt is preceded in death by his father, Matthew Foy Tominey I.

A special thank you to all the students who allowed Matt to join their academic journeys and celebrate their successes.
