July 9, 1933 – October 24, 2024

Joan E. Young, lovingly known as Ann, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2024, at the age of 91. Born in Ingelheim, Germany, Ann grew up during the challenging years of World War II, which shaped her resilient spirit and deep appreciation for life.

At 23, Ann moved to the United States, embracing her new home with enthusiasm and determination. A self-taught individual, she exemplified a lifelong love of learning, proudly celebrating the day she received her citizenship each year.

Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband, MSG William L. Young. She is survived by her three sons: George Aldridge, Robert Aldridge, and Roger Aldridge, her grandchildren, Jessica McGinnis, Weston Wleczky, Meghan Villagranna, Marc Aldridge, Julia Aldridge, Rachel Aldridge, and two great grandchildren.

A passionate gardener, Ann delighted in growing vegetables, sharing her bounty of green beans and red potatoes with family and friends. She even grew her own prized pineapple, which was featured in the Belton Journal. Ann’s culinary skills were unmatched; she loved baking, particularly her signature German rye bread and buttercremtorte, with recipes lovingly stored in her memory.

Ann’s generosity extended beyond her kitchen. Known for her sewing skills, she created “neck rolls” for everyone in her community and anyone she met, with a trunk full of fabrics in various colors, themes, and patterns. Through her handmade gifts, she spread warmth and comfort wherever she went.

In honoring her wishes, there will be no formal services. Those who knew Ann will remember her as the epitome of love, friendliness, and kindness. If you were loved by Ann, you were loved deeply. Her presence was a gift to all, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and grace that will continue to inspire those she loved.
