August 26, 1948 – August 17, 2025 Shirley Anne Culver, born August 26, 1948 and longtime resident of Salado, passed away on Sunday August 17, 2025. She is survived by her son Russell and wife Michele; her daughter LonAnne and Mike; her grandchildren Mason, Madison and husband David, Austin and wife Maggie, Thomas and William; and by her Dearest Steve - her dance partner for the last 20 years. Shirley is also survived by her sister Alice Wells; her sister Margaret Hardin and husband Rodney; her brother Jim West and wife Carol; her sister-in-law Pam Downing and many nieces and nephews who adore her. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Bill Culver of Salado; her parents Jack and Bettye West of Groom; her grandparents Elton and Maggie Ruth Johnston of McLean and Charley and Ina West of McLean. “Miss” Shirley was married to her high school sweetheart and soul mate, Bill, for thirty-three and a half years and is now reunited with him in heaven. Working as a Certifi ed Financial Planner in Bell County from 1980 to 2021, Shirley found her calling getting to know people and their families and helping them attain their goals and dreams. Shirley will always be remembered for her love for her family and friends, for her service to the people she counseled throughout her years as a fi nancial planner, and for her connection to strangers who were drawn to share their stories with her. She truly had a gift for making everyone feel they had an important place in the world. A private family gathering is planned. November 6, 1950 – September 2, 2025 Gary Lynn Caplinger, born on November 6, 1950, in Crosbyton, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home in Temple, Texas, on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Gary lived a life full of love, dedication, and a commitment to family that was evident in everything he did. Raised in a nurturing environment, Gary graduated from Lubbock High School before furthering his education at the Southwestern Oklahoma School of Pharmacy. His career began in 1974 with a private pharmacy, and he later took pride in serving as a pharmacist at the VA hospital. After many years of devoted labor, Gary concluded his professional journey at Walmart Pharmacy, retiring in 2017. Throughout his life, Gary was known for his easygoing nature, great sense of humor, and tender-heartedness. He was kind, caring, and always appreciative of those around him. With a positive spirit, he instilled the values of loyalty and protection in his family, along with a deep reverence for the word of God. His faith was evident through his dedication as a member of the Crossroads Church, where he enjoyed participating in Bible studies and golf fellowship. In 1974, Gary met the love of his life, Patty, and upon their fi rst glance, he knew she was the one. They were married six months later, and together they built a loving family, celebrated numerous milestones, and created a bond that lasted through their 50 years of marriage. Gary cherished being a family man and took immense pride in his sons, Jeremy and Jeff, as well as his beloved grandchildren. He was particularly fond of his wife, whom he affectionately called “Patty Sue.” Gary enjoyed many hobbies, including golfi ng, watching sports—especially college basketball—and he possessed a passion for classic cars and collecting antiques. An avid reader, he took delight in History, Christian Literature and the Bible. He also developed a reputation as a master of dad jokes, always bringing laughter to those around him. He had a great love for animals especially his dogs and cats. Gary is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Patty Caplinger; his two sons, Jeremy (Jennifer) Caplinger and Jeff (Wendy) Caplinger; his sister Debra (Richie Crowell); his grandchildren, Travis, Gavin, Caleb, River, William and Abbie; his nephews Jarrett and Cason, niece Melanie and his beloved cat. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Naomi (Pickens) Caplinger, and one brother, Don Lee Caplinger. His life and legacy were celebrated during a visitation on Monday, September 8, 2025, at Young’s Daughters Funeral Home & Bereavement Center in Temple, Texas, from 9 a.m. with a Funeral Service following at 10 a.m. A burial service at Hillcrest Cemetery will commence afterwards. Gary Lynn Caplinger will be remembered for his unwavering love, his dedication to family, and the light of God that fl ourished in him. He has left an indelible mark on the lives of all who knew him. A special thank you to all family and friends, the Crossroads Church members, his golf buddies and “The Girl Gang” for all their support and prayers during this time. Charlie Dean Parmer March 27, 1938 August 29, 2025 Reverend Dr. Charlie Dean Parmer was born on March 27, 1938, in Bell County, Texas. He went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 29, 2025 Dr. Parmer earned degrees from Texas A&M College (now Texas A&M University) and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He began his professional life as a teacher at Belton Junior High School before devoting himself full-time to ministry. Over the course of his lifetime, Dr. Parmer faithfully served numerous congregations, including First Baptist Church, Bennington, Oklahoma; San Gabriel Baptist Church, San Gabriel, Texas; First Baptist Church, Lyford, Texas; First Baptist Church, Lexington, Texas; Elliott Baptist Church, Elliott, Texas; First Baptist Church, Kosse, Texas; Pershing Park Baptist, Killeen, Texas; Parker Lane Baptist Church, Austin, Texas; First Baptist Church, Bartlett, Texas; First Baptist Church, Nolanville, Texas; Marlboro Heights Missionary Baptist Church, Killeen, Texas (Min. of Ed); Pioneer Baptist Church, Nolanville, Texas; and Trimmier Baptist Church, Killeen, Texas. Dr. Parmer also worked at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, where he played a key role in establishing the International Student Program in the early 1980s. Later in life, he founded the New American International Bible Institute and Seminary, through which he ministered to and taught hundreds of students. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robbie Ray Parmer and Mary O’Dell Parmer; his sister, Joyce Evelyn Parmer; his brother, William Ray Parmer; his first wife, Lyndal Wolverton Parmer; and his second wife, Jeanette Moore Parmer. He is survived by his sisters, Doris Mae Parmer Sayler of Cedar Park and Leona Marie Parmer of Harker Heights, Texas; his children, Teri Parmer Sutterfield and husband Dale of Kerrville, Deana Parmer Garrick and husband Jonathan of Harker Heights, and Martin “Chip” Ray Parmer and wife Clarissa of Marlin, Texas. He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Lt. Commander Bryson Sutterfield and wife Kelsey of Round Rock, Braden Sutterfield and wife Mary Elizabeth of Plainview, Alyxis Garrick Wood and husband Josh of Harker Heights, Joshua Garrick and wife Ashley of Harker Heights, Anaissa Parmer of College Station, Andrew Parmer, and Ariel Parmer of Marlin, along with seven great-grandchildren. Visitation for friends and family will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen. A private burial service for immediate family will be held at a later time. Linda Pishner April 18, 1943 – August 29 2025 Linda Pishner, a devoted wife, loving mother, adored grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away on August 29, 2025, in Temple, Texas. Born on April 18, 1943, Linda dedicated over 26 years of her life to proudly serving at the VA Hospital in Temple, where she made a significant impact in the fields of dietetics and food service. Linda was known for her warm and caring personality, always extending her love and support to her family. She found great joy in playing cards, particularly 500 Rummy, often drawing her family into friendly competition. Many fond memories were shared as laughter filled the air while they played. Her playful spirit resonated especially with her grandchildren, to whom she delighted in giving gummy bears, a sweet gesture that will surely be remembered with affection. In her free time, Linda nurtured various hobbies. She enjoyed collecting crystal and china and often indulged in dining out, where she could share good meals and create lasting memories with loved ones. She loved animals and would feed the 30 plus deer that showed up for dinner from her porch nightly. Her heart was also filled with love for her dogs, especially her faithful companion, Andy, who brought her endless joy. Linda’s proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly her family. She is survived by her sons, Joseph Nicolas Pishner Jr. of Temple, and Michael John Pishner of Fort Worth; her sister, Anna Marie Cantaberry of Fayetteville, WV; her three granddaughters, Rebecca Turney of Temple, Christina Miller of Temple, and Mary Minick of Belton; her great-grandchildren, Shon Miller, Miriah Miller, Addison Turney, Emma Turney, and one on the way. Each of them will carry forward her legacy of love and compassion. Linda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Pishner Sr., her parents, John and Dora Ramella, her brother, John L. Ramella Jr., and her sister, Nidia Harrison. The tender memory of Linda will forever live in the hearts of those who knew her, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate Linda’s life. Visitation will be held on September 9, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by a Rosary service at 7 p.m. at Crotty Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Belton, Texas. Thelma Yvonne San  chez July 28, 1944 – August 16, 2025 Thelma was born in Elmhurst, IL to Julian Serna and Elena Cortez Cassiano, the eldest of three children. She started as a young, single mother, and with the help of her parents, she developed a fun life for her family; whether picnics at the lake, movies at the drive-in theater or just girls night dancing in the living room with her three daughters. Thelma was always learning and working to better her life for herself and her family. Her time at MHMR of Temple, TX was her most rewarding job experience, as she was able to obtain her high school diploma and an associate degree from Temple College. She had to kiss a few frogs, but at 69, she finally married her prince, Jessie Sanchez, a friend since her teenage years. Jessie treated her like a queen and made her last twelve years her happiest. Mamma loved Jessie, her family, and her plants. She created beautiful needlepoint pieces and was the family plant doctor. Her Spanish rice, banana bread, and homemade jellies were always a hit with her friends and family Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, and four children. She is survived by her husband, her sister, Mary Petke of IL, daughter, Yvonne M. Fleshman of Belton, and two sons, Ralph Sanchez of San Antonio, and Maximus Wayne of Dallas, 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many life-long friends. Joe Minor May 31, 1960 – September 1, 2025 Joe Minor of Holland, Texas, passed away at the hospital in Temple, Texas on September 1, 2025. He was 65 years of age. Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 5th, 2025, at Dossman Funeral Home, Belton, Texas. Burial to follow at North Belton Cemetery. Joe was born on May 31, 1960, in Belton Texas to Santos and Petra Alejandro Minor. Joe is survived by his brothers; Jesse Minor of Belton, Texas, and Santos and wife Jill Minor jr. and their nine children and eight grandchildren. Melvin Lee Scott November 6, 1962 – August 15, 2025 Melvin Lee Scott was a Christian, a beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away on August 15, 2025, in Temple, Texas, at the age of 62. Born on November 6, 1962, in Kansas City, Missouri, Melvin’s journey through life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his family, career, and country. Melvin was a dedicated professional who served as a hiring manager for Washington International Inventory Services, where he was known for his keen insight, ability to connect with people, and reputation as a great employee. His career was not just a job; it was a lifelong passion that reflected his values of integrity and service. In addition to his professional achievements, Melvin proudly served in the Navy, an experience that shaped his character and instilled in him a deep sense of duty and respect for others. His military service is a testament to his commitment to serving his country and protecting the values he held dear. Even while in the Navy, Melvin made sure to send financial support back to his mother and siblings, demonstrating his devotion to family. A true sports enthusiast, Melvin enjoyed all sports throughout his life. He participated on his high school basketball team and was considered the Wilt Chamberlain of his day. He loved watching wrestling and took up golf in his later years. Melvin was someone his family cherished deeply. He was always ready to lend a hand if something urgent arose or to send a thoughtful gift to his Aunt Marilyn Hudson to brighten her day. As a good friend, he was the kind you could always depend on— reliable, supportive, and kind-hearted. He is survived by his loving family, including his brothers Robert Morris and Randy Morris, along with their respective spouses, Kenyada Morris and Janice Morris. Melvin’s significant other, LaTasha Clark, was a cherished part of his life, providing companionship and support during their time together. As well as a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and Aunt. A visitation was held on August 27, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Young’s Daughters Funeral Home & Bereavement Center in Temple, Texas. Following the visitation, a graveside service took place on August 28, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.  Melvin Lee Scott will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and the love he shared with all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion and integrity that will resonate in the hearts of his family and friends.

Gianna Rose Cordero June 25, 2010 – August 10, 2025 Gianna Rose Cordero, lovingly known as “Gigi,” was born on June 25, 2010, in Temple, Texas, to Gonsalo Cordero III and Tonya Cordero. On Sunday, August 10, 2025, at just 15 years old, Gigi left this world far too soon, leaving behind a family and community who will forever love and miss her. Gigi had just begun her journey at Academy High School, where she was an enthusiastic participant in both the powerlifting team and ROTC. She was known for her sass, her quick wit, and her unwavering loyalty to her friends — truly a “girl’s girl” in every way. Gigi met life with a spark in her eye and a heart full of love for the people closest to her. Her vibrant personality, humor, and fierce spirit made an unforgettable impact on everyone who knew her. She is survived by her parents, Gonsalo and Tonya Cordero; her siblings, Jameela Cordero and Gonsalo Cordero IV; Aunts, Amber Perfetti, Shawna Pearson, Anastasia Cordero, Miranda Rodriguez, Lois Rodriguez. Erica David, Shalonda Johnson, and Uncle Jeremy, aunt Jessica and uncle Adrian Aragon; along with cousins; Adrieana Lusk, Kailynn Pearson, Karson Cox, Briana Leschuck, Cecilia Díaz, Alyssia Diaz, Kason Wilson & Kai Rodriguez; grandparents, and many extended family members and friends who cherished her deeply. A celebration of Gigi’s life was held at 3 p.m. on Saturday August 23, 2025 at Young’s Daughters Funeral Home. The celebration was a collection of stories told.
